Understanding Home Solar Schemes in Jharkhand 2025

The Jharkhand government, in collaboration with the central government, is promoting solar energy through ambitious policies like the Jharkhand Solar Policy 2022 and the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. These initiatives aim to generate 4,000 MW of solar energy by 2026-2027, with a significant focus on rooftop solar for residential households.

Key Solar Schemes in Jharkhand

  1. PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (2024-25)
Launched by the central government, this scheme aims to install solar panels in 1 crore households across India, including Jharkhand. It provides substantial subsidies to reduce the upfront cost of solar installations:

    • Subsidy Details:

      • Up to 2 kW: ₹30,000 per kW

      • 3 kW: ₹78,000 (fixed)

      • Above 3 kW (up to 10 kW): ₹78,000 maximum

      • Group Housing Societies (GHS)/Resident Welfare Associations (RWA): ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities (up to 500 kW).

    • Eligibility: Homeowners or tenants (with landlord permission) in poor and middle-income households. Applicants must be Indian residents and apply through the National Portal for Rooftop Solar.

    • Application Process:

      1. Register on the National Portal for Rooftop Solar.

      2. Submit documents like identity proof, address proof, electricity bill, and property ownership proof.

      3. Select a DISCOM-empanelled vendor for installation.

      4. Post-installation, the subsidy is transferred via Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) within 30 days.

  2. Jharkhand Solar Policy 2022
This state-specific policy offers additional financial incentives:

    • State Subsidy: Up to 40% for on-grid solar systems (up to 3 kW) and 20% for systems between 3-10 kW.

    • Special Incentive: Households with an annual income below ₹3 lakh can avail up to 80% subsidy on installation costs.

    • Net Metering: Allows homeowners to sell excess electricity to the grid, reducing electricity bills by up to 80%.

  3. KUSUM Yojana
While primarily for farmers, this scheme supports solar pump installations with a 60% subsidy (30% central + 30% state). It indirectly benefits rural households by promoting solar adoption.

Why These Schemes Matter

The Solar scheme in Jharkhand makes solar energy affordable and accessible, encouraging households to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lower electricity bills, and contribute to a cleaner environment. With streamlined application processes and DISCOM support, Jharkhand residents can easily adopt solar energy.
